Project Global Parli

Article - Sudhir Pai
Shri Mayank Gandhi needs no introduction. A torch bearer in IAC (India Against Corruption), then a senior member in AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) and now a full time social activist heading an ambitious project in rural Maharashtra called as Project Global Parli with a spiritual touch.

I was following Mayank ji on social media, TV, newspaper since his IAC days and was very impressed by his integrity and honesty. When I came to know about his involvement with social activity called as Global Parli, I was very excited to know more about this humanitarian work, so I sent a message on Facebook. Within 3 days, Mayank ji gave me appointment and I was in his office at sharp 1 pm in Santacruz.

He was conducting meeting with a team of social activists and suggested me to join in. His meeting was conducted in a very open, friendly and focussed. After the meeting, we straight away came to one to one discussion about Global Parli. And this is what he told me about his current project. Mayank ji seemed to be inspired by some spiritual and mystical energy as he was talking about Global Parli.

Project Global Parli.

There are three key buttons in national life that can lead to transformation  - Politics, economy and thought process. Mayank ji had been involved with politics with a view to change the political agenda of the country, that could form the right policies for the nation. The churning in politics had begun and now it was time for him to disengage from politics and work on the second front – economy. He quit politics completely in November 2015.

While the urban economy is alright, it’s the rural economy that needs rejuvenation. The fountainhead for that is water. With adequate water, it would be possible and easier to kickstart the rural economy. With that in mind, Mayank ji took up a cluster of 12 villages in Parli tehsil of Beed district in Marathawada. He, along with his team intends to develop these villages in a 360 degree manner to increase their per capita income by 250% in 3 years in a sustainable manner.

Therefore, water conservation, water management, crop selection and management, direct-to-consumer supply chain, cattle and dairy activities, education and vocation training, health and replication of these practices is what he has worked on.

Drip Irrigation

Considering three consecutive years of drought in Marathwada region and weak monsoon last year, drip irrigation is the need of the hour. It is an incredibly efficient watering method that slowly delivers water directly to a plant’s root system (where it is really required). Other common irrigation devices like sprinklers spray water onto plant leaves as well as the surrounding soil wasting a lot of water in the process.
The villages in our target region mostly grow cotton so drip irrigation will bring down their water requirement to 1/10th. Drip irrigation not only makes agriculture possible within limited water but also brings about higher yields by 20-30%. To put it in perspective, it will almost double the income of the farmers.
The cost to set up drip irrigation is Rs.1, 30, 000 per hectare. Jain Irrigation, who is the drip irrigation provider, is giving a special discount of 12.5% for Global Parli. The govt. subsidy to marginal farmers for buying drip irrigation systems is 45%. Over and above, UPL, India’s foremost agri-input company and our donor will pay 12% of the cost.

Transforming India using a replicable model of Rural Rejuvenation.

·         - Global Parli is not just social work, but an endevour to build India..

·         - Global Parli will act as a platform for other NGOs/CSR depts. /individuals that want to support the villagers directly in these 15 villages.

·         - Govt passes its duties to NGOs, which is unfortunate. Global Parli will act as catalyst to implement govt schemes for the people.

Principles on which Global Parli is operating.

·         Villagers are used to doles which has diluted their self respect and character. Global Parli will stir villages to self reliance.
·         Will focus on what is good for the people. No imposition of political, religious, social or moral ideology on the villagers.

·         Global Parli will act as a platform for other NGOs/CSR depts. /individuals that want to support the villagers directly in these 15 villages.

Happiest Man in World

Source  : Esquire
Writer  : Mat Smith

Matthieu Ricard, 67, Buddhist monk

"If you can learn how to ride a bike you can learn how to be happy," says 67-year-old Buddhist monk and Happiest Man In The World, Matthieu Ricard.

As a child, poet Andre Breton, film-maker Louis Buñuel and composer Igor Stravinsky were regular guests to Ricard's philosopher parents' Parisian home. However, observing that the genius of his parents' friends didn't seem to make them any happier he set off for the Himalayas (abandoning his work as a molecular biologist at the Pasteur Institute) and transformed his life via meditation.

At the last count he'd clocked up more than 10,000 hours. Highly complex MRI scans by cognitive scientists at the Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience in Wisconsin have shown extraordinarily high levels of upbeat activity (-0.45 on a range where -0.3 is described as "beatific") and almost invisible levels of negative emotions. "I don't see everything as rosy," he says, "but the ups and downs of life don't unsettle me in the usual way."

The Man Who Knew Infinity

Few days back, I watched newly released Hollywood movie based on life of great Indian mathematician - S. Ramanujan.
The most hard hitting dialogue of the film, I felt was when Ramanujan says - A mathematical equation is useless until it expresses divinity.
An unusual emotional bond between idol worshipper prodigy Ramanujan and atheist mentor G.H. Hardy gives an insight between two diagonally opposite full spectrum of human consciousness.
When Hardy asks Ramanujan how he is able to get those genius mathematical breakthroughs, he replies that Goddess Namagiri ( A form of Lakshmi ) whispers those formulaes in his dreams.
Intuition played huge role in Ramanujan's creative insights.
Ramanujan's work is of significant importance in getting insights into cutting edge modern research such as quantum physics, black holes and string theories.
Hat's off to this great mind who left his mortal body at young age of 32.
The man who knew infinity - A must watch movie.

Go With The Flow

Most unhappiness comes from resisting life. Occasionally, we have such a strong commitment to a cause for changing the world order that it is worth struggling against the flow of life.  But most people don't have that kind of dedication to that cause, and even for those who do, there is much of daily life that is not related to any particular issue of principle. Nonetheless, we live our lives as if each minor happening were a matter of life and death.

We have demands of the world, these demands aren't met, and we become disappointed and angry. Is that just human nature? Yes and no. It is human nature to prefer the predictable, but this preference becomes highly exaggerated in some societies. Twenty First Century Human Race, especially in dense urban areas, has become the epitome of expectations and demands, which inevitably result in disappointment and anger as the world fails to meet these expectations. Demanding that the world meet our expectations has become a bad habit that causes great unhappiness. But it doesn't have to be that way. We can break the bad habit of being unhappy.

Think of life being like a mighty river, such as the Mississippi or the Ganges. Sometimes the river floods, sometimes it is quiet. Sometimes it cuts a new course, drowning some farmland and leaving some old river bottom high and dry. One could fight the river and curse its vicissitudes, or one could sail on the river, fish in the river, drink from the river, irrigate crops from the river, and live happily on the river. Fighting against life, like fighting against a mighty river is a pointless waste of energy. Within the constraints life sets and within its vagaries, we still have immense freedom of action. We can fully express our commitments and live life to the fullest without fighting against it.

To go with the flow of life, without compromising our values:
1. Visualize life as a river, and the challenge of living as being a river pilot. Keep your eyes far enough downstream that you can gently maneuver toward your goal using the force of the river to power your journey. Think of setting your course as the game that it is. Outthink life, but don’t try to overpower it.

2. Remember that life is not serious. You already know the final score: Life-1, You-0. So just have fun on your run down the river

3. Take time for yourself. Breathe deeply. Take a quiet walk. Spend time alone in a natural setting and soak up the stillness .

4. Clear your mind of everything you thought you knew. Be like a child in having no preconceptions of how life should turn out. Visualize pouring water into a cup. That's like life flowing into a young child. Now visualize trying to pour clear water into a cup filled with mud. That is like the flow of creation being resisted by expectations and demands one attempts to place upon life .

5.  Be grateful for all of life. Be thankful you are alive.

6. Dance lightly with life. Dancing with life is like dancing with an elephant. She makes a jolly partner so long as you watch her moves, react quickly, and don't get stepped on.

Human Mind - Evolution

How did life appear in matter? How does an organism consisting only of matter produce consciousness? The mind-body problem remains vividly discussed though unexplained, and the present gross materialistic stance of neurobiology, that all is matter and that consequently life and consciousness are (epi)phenomena of matter, raises more questions than it answers.

The universal scheme behind terrestrial evolution may, in Sri Aurobindo's view, be outlined as follows. There is the silent Brahmn, the Ineffable, which can only be known by the highest spiritual experience. One and the same is the active Brahmn which manifests its inexhaustible infinity in endless time and timelessness. Manifestation has been and will be always at the top of gradations of eternal manifestation in the worlds of the three ultimate attributes of the One: sat or existence, chit or consciousness, ananda or bliss.

Quote for today

It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them. It is very important to generate a good attitude, a good heart, as much as possible. From this, happiness in both the short term and the long term for both yourself and others will come

Om Shanti ... !!!

Green World Mission

The Earth is losing its trees. After trees are cut down, the land loses its fertility. Hunger and conflict grow. Biodiversity dwindles, and water supplies dry up. The deserts creep forward, hastening climate change. But there is something we can do.

Plant trees. Lots of trees. Trees heal barren soil and increase food crops, helping people become self-sufficient. They remove CO2 from the air, and restore the environment for generations to come

Help people plant their future--and ours. We plant trees to restore the ecology and economy of some of the world's poorest places. We help communities develop sustainable livelihoods, return barren soil to fertility, nurture biodiversity, and preserve cultural values.

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26 , 1910. Her family was of Albanian descent. At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God. She knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ. At the age of eighteen she left her parental home in Skopje and joined the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India. After a few months' training in Dublin she was sent to India, where on May 24, 1931, she took her initial vows as a nun. From 1931 to 1948 Mother Teresa taught at St. Mary's High School in Calcutta, but the suffering and poverty she glimpsed outside the convent walls made such a deep impression
