Project Global Parli

Article - Sudhir Pai
Shri Mayank Gandhi needs no introduction. A torch bearer in IAC (India Against Corruption), then a senior member in AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) and now a full time social activist heading an ambitious project in rural Maharashtra called as Project Global Parli with a spiritual touch.

I was following Mayank ji on social media, TV, newspaper since his IAC days and was very impressed by his integrity and honesty. When I came to know about his involvement with social activity called as Global Parli, I was very excited to know more about this humanitarian work, so I sent a message on Facebook. Within 3 days, Mayank ji gave me appointment and I was in his office at sharp 1 pm in Santacruz.

He was conducting meeting with a team of social activists and suggested me to join in. His meeting was conducted in a very open, friendly and focussed. After the meeting, we straight away came to one to one discussion about Global Parli. And this is what he told me about his current project. Mayank ji seemed to be inspired by some spiritual and mystical energy as he was talking about Global Parli.

Project Global Parli.

There are three key buttons in national life that can lead to transformation  - Politics, economy and thought process. Mayank ji had been involved with politics with a view to change the political agenda of the country, that could form the right policies for the nation. The churning in politics had begun and now it was time for him to disengage from politics and work on the second front – economy. He quit politics completely in November 2015.

While the urban economy is alright, it’s the rural economy that needs rejuvenation. The fountainhead for that is water. With adequate water, it would be possible and easier to kickstart the rural economy. With that in mind, Mayank ji took up a cluster of 12 villages in Parli tehsil of Beed district in Marathawada. He, along with his team intends to develop these villages in a 360 degree manner to increase their per capita income by 250% in 3 years in a sustainable manner.

Therefore, water conservation, water management, crop selection and management, direct-to-consumer supply chain, cattle and dairy activities, education and vocation training, health and replication of these practices is what he has worked on.

Drip Irrigation

Considering three consecutive years of drought in Marathwada region and weak monsoon last year, drip irrigation is the need of the hour. It is an incredibly efficient watering method that slowly delivers water directly to a plant’s root system (where it is really required). Other common irrigation devices like sprinklers spray water onto plant leaves as well as the surrounding soil wasting a lot of water in the process.
The villages in our target region mostly grow cotton so drip irrigation will bring down their water requirement to 1/10th. Drip irrigation not only makes agriculture possible within limited water but also brings about higher yields by 20-30%. To put it in perspective, it will almost double the income of the farmers.
The cost to set up drip irrigation is Rs.1, 30, 000 per hectare. Jain Irrigation, who is the drip irrigation provider, is giving a special discount of 12.5% for Global Parli. The govt. subsidy to marginal farmers for buying drip irrigation systems is 45%. Over and above, UPL, India’s foremost agri-input company and our donor will pay 12% of the cost.

Transforming India using a replicable model of Rural Rejuvenation.

·         - Global Parli is not just social work, but an endevour to build India..

·         - Global Parli will act as a platform for other NGOs/CSR depts. /individuals that want to support the villagers directly in these 15 villages.

·         - Govt passes its duties to NGOs, which is unfortunate. Global Parli will act as catalyst to implement govt schemes for the people.

Principles on which Global Parli is operating.

·         Villagers are used to doles which has diluted their self respect and character. Global Parli will stir villages to self reliance.
·         Will focus on what is good for the people. No imposition of political, religious, social or moral ideology on the villagers.

·         Global Parli will act as a platform for other NGOs/CSR depts. /individuals that want to support the villagers directly in these 15 villages.

Budhi Prakash Thakur

Where there is will, there is a way.

Budhi Prakash Thakur from Khakhnal, a small, beautiful village nestled in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district. His father was a farmer. Budhi Prakash did his schooling in government schools, and at the same time helped his family in various farming activities.

After finishing his schooling, Budhi Prakash went to Chandigarh to do his intermediate education. He studied in DAV school but never lost an opportunity to visit his village and help his father. Budhi Prakash, who believes that his father’s struggles were much larger than his own.

From a very young age, Budhi Prakash was his father’s right hand in supporting the family. When he was just a teenager he helped his father start growing apples. This decision eased the family’s financial troubles. He was in his second year in college when he decided to quit regular studies to join the family in starting a homestay in their village.
Investing the money that came from the farmland, Budhi Prakash and his father built a small five-room property for tourists seeking budget accommodation near Manali. Within just six years, the homestay grew into a popular resort, named Sarthak Resorts, which today has 65 rooms. This success completely transformed the fortunes of the family.
During his days of education, Budhi Prakash had also observed the zeal among tourists for his home state. He wanted to start a resort in his village, which was just 9km from Manali, where tourists flocked in increasing numbers with each passing year. In 1996, after several years of planning and pooling resources, Budhi Prakash laid the foundation for Sarthak Resorts in his village.
Budhi Prakash soon started an air-travel service called AirHimalayas under the company Himachal Holidays. However, he soon met with closed doors as no aviation company was willing to partner with a newbie. Budhi Prakash didn’t give up and finally partnered up with the Bengaluru-based aviation company Deccan Charters to start its services in the region.
On April 2, 2014, when their first aircraft took flight, it was also the first time a private company flew a business class chartered aircraft service in Himachal Pradesh. That was a day of tremendous joy for Budhi Prakash, he happily recalls.

How To Become A Writer ?

I don’t claim to be an expert, but I’ve been writing 500 words a day almost every day for last 3 years. That’s the most important tip of all—to be a writer, is to start writing. You’ll develop a lot of things along the way.

But for all of you ambitious people out there, here are some other ideas which may help you

Stay Focussed. This is how you apply it. Give people the concept and then tell them more about how they can use it. Inspiration is fun and meaningful; and that's how I started writing my first book ( THINK LIKE A WINNER )

Talk to audience. Just don't write. Talk to audience. Tell them something interesting. People love to listen to stories. Tell them some interesting stories which will impact their lives.

Write for a niche. I try to visualize about the readers when I start writing. They’re all different, but I try to picture them and think, what would so-and-so think of this? Would they get it? Will they find it interesting?

Read everything aloud. There’s something about hearing your work aloud that causes you to notice things you miss when you read. I use to read  the entire manuscript of my second book LIVE YOUR DREAMS  out loud over the course of a week (1-2 chapters a day). I couldn’t believe how many mistakes and poor word choices I found! Keep in mind this was after I had been writing the book for about eight months, and after three edits. It was depressing… but hopefully now it’s better because I did it.

Life at THINQBate

07 Nov 2016 ( Monday ) - I had a meeting with a startup TALEHO at Marwah House, Andheri sharp at 2pm.

And I thought it would be yet another startup, but when I entered THINQBate office, I was pleasantly surprised and felt like entering a college campus. The energy and vibrancy of startup ecosystem was there in the air.

And then I was greeted by Prajakta, a dynamic smart looking content manager of TALEHO. After having a glass of water and some nice smelling coffee, we finally settled for business discussion.

I was scheduled to meet Sandeep, one of founders of TALEHO and at last moment met Nikesh, another founder of TALEHO. And I realized, nothing is certain in startup. I was supposed to meet Sandeep and ended up meeting Nikesh, Prajakta and Omkar.

Compassionate Capitalism

'Compassionate capitalism' urged for India

Indian entrepreneur Narayan Murthy, founder of global software giant Infosys, says "compassionate capitalism" is the only solution to poverty in the country.

Narayan Murthy: One of the world's most admired business leaders
Debate is currently raging throughout India over the economic policy of the new government, following a lukewarm media response and stock market jitters.
But Mr Murthy told BBC World Service's The Interview programme that more had to be done to drive entrepreneurial activity.
"We believe that if India has to solve its problem of poverty, we have to embrace capitalism, ensure that jobs are created, and make sure that market-driven policies are accepted," he said.
"However, to do that, the people who are the evangelists of capitalism, must conduct themselves in a manner that will appeal to the masses."People must be able to relate to them easily. They must lead a normal life, a simple life, and people must be able to say, 'look, if these jokers can do it, we can do it better'."

Radio Queen Mallishka !

Source : Your Story
Writer  : Preeti Chamikutty

Her effervescent voice wakes up Mumbai every morning. Meet RJ Malishka or Malishka as she prefers to be addressed. Her show Morning No.1 on Red FM is an addiction for many in Mumbai. Malishka has been an RJ for eight years and says she has enjoyed every bit of her time on air.

In a brief chat, Malishka speaks about the power she yields over the city of Mumbai and her thoughts on entrepreneurship. She is as friendly and talkative in real life as she is on air.

Young and confused

The elder of two sisters, Malishka says she remembers having a lot of fun in childhood. “I always wanted to be on stage. So I would round up the neighbourhood children, we would dress up and perform skits or sing songs. In school I would wait for Children’s Day or Teacher’s Day to be on stage. Though I can’t say I was very confident back then, but yes I did not suffer from stage fright,” she confides.

Malishka had decided to be in the media very early in life. She was open to being an actor, performer or a journalist. “I don’t think this decision came from smartness, it was plain panic,” says Malishka candidly. She lost her father very early and being the eldest child the sense of responsibility hit her early. She worked as an intern with ad maker Prahlad Kakkar while she was in college, but once her internship ended she was not sure which way to go.

He Left His Corporate Job In Mumbai To Take Up Organic Farming And Help A Community Live Healthy

Suneet Salvi managed a furniture company, in which he had a major stake, before deciding to find a greater purpose in his life.

He is one of the few Mumbaikars who are turning to an organic way of life by growing their own produce without the use of chemical fertilisers.
We met up with him to ask about his farm and his new way of life.

1. What made you give up your business and start organic farming?

Actually it has become much more than organic farming. What started out as a personal hobby has now become a full scale humanitarian and ecological life mission for me. I was in search of a higher purpose in life and once I found it, it became easy to say good bye to corporate life and sell my stake in my business and move on. With the blessings of my Guru and support of my family I decided to embark on this journey.
